Gary McDonald

The Lighthouse and What It Does

Apr 22, 2021

Gary McDonald is with the Lighthouse Counseling & Family Resource Center

Gary is an entrepreneur and non-profit leader having founded Nursefinders of Cincinnati and Nursefinders of Pittsburgh (both temporary nursing services) as well as an Australian themed restaurant which he owned and operated for six years. Gary served as CEO of Colorado-based Care and Share Food Bank for five years and later went on to launch Feeding America San Diego, the largest food bank in San Diego County. Mayor Sanders and the City of San Diego declared April 4 2010, Gary McDonald Day in honor of his service to low-income people residing in San Diego County.

At the request of the White House, Gary participated in a panel discussion for the Office of Faith Based and Community Initiatives on Hunger and Homelessness. By invitation of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Gary participated in the Successful Strategies in Changing Behavior forum in order to reduce the number of deaths related to drunk driving.

Gary has assisted in emergency efforts for the Hayman fire in Colorado, one of the largest and most devastating wildfires in Colorado's recorded history. Gary also served as the California State Director for Mothers Against Drunk Driving. Later he successfully merged Senior Gleaners Food Bank with the Sacramento Food Bank to streamline hunger relief in Sacramento County.

Gary has performed humanitarian work in Nicaragua, El Salvador and Thailand. He has undergraduate degrees in both Marketing and Finance from the University of Wisconsin and a Master’s Degree in Counseling from the University of Colorado. Gary currently serves as the Executive Director of Lighthouse Counseling and Family Resource Center. He is married to Minerva and has one daughter who is an attorney in Washington DC.

Let's Party at Dueling Dogs
Apr 29, 2021 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM

It has been a long time for a chance to gather in person to visit and relax with our friends so here it is.  We are going to gather at Dueling Dogs Brewery on April 29th.

It is located at 3030 Barret Park Lane in Lincoln.  We will meet from 5:30-7:30 PM and enjoy conversation, refreshments from Rebel Hen in Lincoln, beer, cider, and  mead from the Dueling Dogs brewery.

We will also have a corn toss tournament so get ready for some friendly competition.  Claire Luke will be collecting $10 each for the food and this can be given to her in cash or check made  payable to her.  The beer, cider, mead or other liquid refreshments are your own responsibility.

You must make a reservation by April 26th.  We will be taking names at our meeting on the 22nd, too.  This should  be a great way to see all our Rotary friends and guests and safely gather for a few hours.

Make your reservation by calling me or emailing Claire at the numbers below:  Potential member guests invited - no charge.
