Upcoming Guest Speaker

Known by many as “The Elder Care Navigator”, Our guest Speaker on September 5th is Helen Justice. She is a Certified Geriatric Care Manager trained to assist elders and their families with the process of aging with dignity and grace. Her knowledge and experience with senior placement insures elders obtain quality care and transitional preparation for their future.    Helen Justice.

 Meeting Welcome

President Greg opened the meeting with 35 members and 4guests present. The Flag salute was led by Bryan, and the Four Way Test was led by Joann. Guests present were Priscilla Clinton (Guest of Keela), John Reedy (Guest of Greg), Penny Pearl (our most favorite guest), and Alma Guzman interested in learning about Rotary.

Induction and Welcome of New Member
Membership chair, Bryan Ludwig welcomed James (Jamie)Wedell as a new member, after an excellent review of Rotary. He spoke about the benefits and responsibilities of being a Rotarian. Joann, as sponsor, then gave Jamie the Rotary membership pin. The club welcomed Jamie with applause and a standing ovation.
OOPS, Better late than never
Bryan had the honor of presenting Jerry Johnson a President's Pin for his service in 2004-2005. It's never too late to appreciate the service that Jerry provided. The members gave an appropriate applause and enjoyed the humor of the belated award.
Events and Committee Announcements
President Greg began the events and committee announcements portion of the meeting. He reported that 7 members that volunteered to help sell See's Candy last Nov.-Dec., attended the thank you BBQ provided by the Kiwainis Club. Bryan reiterated that volunteers are needed for both the October 18 and 19 days of the TDL.. Sign up Genius is now active.   Claire discussed the Club Social 8/29 at Dueling Dogs from 5:30-7:30 or beyond. There will be a Corn Hole contest option for $10. The CH winner gets half of the participation money and the other half will go to PolioPlus. She wants members to know that food stops at 7:30.

Guest Speaker
Jan Hutchinson introduced Shanti Landon. Shanti represents District Two on the Placer County Board of Supervisors. (She also happens to be a member of our club!) Shanti Landon gave a most interesting and comprehensive report of the responsibilities of her position. She provided information on the Sacramento State College project, The Bickford Ranch project and the Titan Missile land recovery. Also covered, were the Placer County Population history, District Supervisor's boundaries, Quality of Life, Income, Tourism, and the benefits of Agriculture in the county. These topics can be viewed on the photos from the meeting provided by photographer, Bill Alston. Shanti presented a wonderful overview of Placer County and how carefully the Supervisors listen to their citizens. Kudos to Shanti for her presentation.

           The Four-Way Test
Of the things we think, say or do:
   1. Is it the truth?
   2. Is it fair to all concerned?
   3. Will it build goodwill and
         better friendships?
   4. Will it be beneficial
        to all concerned?

   5. HAVE FUN !!
