President Kerry welcomed 32 members and 4 guests to the meeting. Guests included Guest speaker Dr. Merer, Sandy Cook (Bill), Steve Brown (Howard Dutra), Kevin O’Connor (Tom Gibbs). The flag salute was led by Lindsey Graves and the Four Way Test was led by Gail Gentile. The Legacy Community Choir with Director /guitarist Cindy and pianist John presented a variety of Christmas songs, enjoyed by all. President Kerry shared Xmas trivia with us
Joann shared with us her attendance at the Celebration in San Francisco commemorating the role Rotary International played in the formation of the United Nations. Art shared his positive experience in helping the Kiwanis Club in their sales of Sees Candy. Art has Rotary magnetic lapel pins for sale at $6. Rotary International Fund Share is encouraged. Go to the website to sign up. Jan updated us on referring potential speakers to her as Speaker Chair, who will share the information with our monthly speaker coordinators. Clark shared that in celebrating our 100th club anniversary, that the gift to the Boys’ and Girls’ Club was the largest gift ever made! He also spoke about annual dues, cash flow, projected cash balance, and that we need to raise $8500 - $9000. We have two options: assess members or, ask for member donations. We decided to ask for donations. Please let Clark know if you will help with a donation. Lindsey shared that the club needs to plan extra fund raisers, like auctions, etc.
Dr. Michael Merer has been part of Kaiser Permanente since his Internship and has served as a staff physician since 1999. His career has included roles in Southern California and Colorado before settling in Northern California, which he now calls home. He values Kaiser Permanente’s commitment to high quality, evidence-based care and its strong focus on preventative medicine. A Family Medicine physician in the Adult Medicine department at Lincoln Medical Offices, Dr. Merer cares for a broad range of health needs – from acute injuries to chronic conditions such a diabetes. He especially enjoys building long term relationships with his patients and has particular interest in Sports Medicine. He described the expansion of the ER in the Roseville Hospital with additional 36 beds. He invited us to join Kaiser’s Volunteer Team in Roseville, Lincoln, and Folsom. He also had flyers of the Lincoln farmers’ market held on Mondays from 9 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Kaiser Building at 1900 Dresden Drive, Lincoln. He then responded to questions from members.
