Update on Chapala Mexico Projects
Jun 03, 2021 12:00 PM
Barbara Wilson, President of the Rotary Club of Chapala Sunrise will be speaking this Thursday, in person, at our Club! Barb is the president elect of the Chapala Sunrise Rotary Club in Mexico. She has been a member of both the Ajijic and Chapala rotary clubs with whom Lincoln has long term partnerships on a wide variety of projects. For those that have not yet visited the Chapala area, she will speak for a few minutes about the area and then give an update on recent projects. Most people outside of our area are interested in the status of COVID in Mexico and she can speak to that as well, if people aren’t tired of hearing about COVID already!
Barbara spent her entire career in education. The first half of her career was spent teaching special education, in Philadelphia and Thailand, but most of it in Vallejo, CA. After she went back to UC Berkeley to get a Ph.D. in Educational Policy and Administration, she began her administrative career, working in several different school districts in the Bay Area. The last 11 years of her career was as a District superintendent finishing her career as the Superintendent of Pittsburg Unified in Contra Costa County. Barbara retired to Chapala in 2010 and immediately transferred her Rotary membership to the Ajijic Rotary Club and her husband, Bill joined at that time, too. After three years there, the charter club for the Chapala Sunrise Rotary Club was established. Since she could walk to the club, she transferred in as a charter member. However, she still attends the Ajijic Club from time to time and look forward to working with their incoming president. Other than Rotary, pre pandemic, she and her husband traveled a lot! They’ve been to 75 countries, and many of them Barbara would categorize as "adventure” travel. They have three kids (two in Oakland, CA) and three grandkids. They anticipate visiting the Bay area now that their youngest grandchild (born in February) has arrived. Barbara has been involved in many Rotary projects in Chapala and she is grateful for the partnership with Lincoln Rotary over the years.

Club Assembly
Aug 12, 2021 12:00 PM
From Kristine: As mentioned last week, this week's meeting on August 12th will be a Club Assembly, featuring a speaker who is the President Elect of the Fair Oaks Rotary Club, Elitas Mazhyanga "Mazzy" Chirwa. She is a mental health therapist and counselor, and has a Sacramento County community cable network program on diversity and inclusion called "Mazzy TV Show." Attached for your review and consideration as well are the minutes from our Club's DEI committee's recent meeting. For your information and in case you have questions for Thursday's Club Assembly. Following Mazzy's presentation, I am planning time to break out into committees for some committee work. I know I've asked all chairs to work on their area's priorities and budgets. In light of the foregoing, I will be keeping the other business minimal so that we have ample time to discuss our work as a Rotary family. I look forward to a good discussion, but also a lot of solid listening.

Help us make a difference in the lives of seniors!
Nov 04, 2021
Silver Wishes Inc. was created to let seniors living in Placer County know they matter and have a purpose. By granting wishes, we want them to experience hope and let them know they are valued. Wishes may be something simple to help overcome a challenge or help regain their independence. A wish may be bringing family together that has been separated. Or joy may come in the form of granting the opportunity to experience a bucket list item. Silver Wishes needs your help to make these wishes a reality. In return, we hope our volunteers, donors and community will also experience the joy you receive from being a part of this mission. Together we can make a difference. |
